You can find many options on how to build a wind turbine at home online. There are options that range from buying a set of plans and doing it all yourself all the way to contacting a dealer and letting them do the analysis and installation of the turbine for you.

The world energy situation is becoming very tense. Reserves in the United States and reserves in the Middle East are dwindling fast. We have to take action. Starting to employ renewable energy at our homes is a terrific action step.

If you're serious about making energy at home, you need to learn how to build wind energy systems.

Before you even think about buying a specific turbine you need to do some homework though. There are two very important steps that you must do at the beginning of the project to make sure that wind energy is going to work for you at your home:

* Look into how much wind you actually have to harvest on your property - you must keep in mind that all wind energy is not created the same. There are different wind patterns all over your property whether you realize it or not. The wind patterns that you encounter on your roof for example are very different than the wind patterns that you will encounter at 100 feet up in the air in your backyard. You need to understand the differences on a detailed level in order to make determinations about what kind of turbine to get and where you will install it.

* Secondly, make sure that there are no local ordinances that restrict or prohibit where you can put your wind turbine. Although they are becoming less and less, and, there are rules that hearken back to the problems associated with early large horizontal wind turbines. Many of these problems, like shadow flicker and noise created by the blades, are no longer an issue. But, the perceptions hang on in some locations.

Lastly, look into local incentives for going to wind energy - not only is there a federal tax credit of 30% available now, but also there are various state and local incentives to purchase wind turbines that can seriously offset the costs that you will incur upfront.

In the final analysis, if you build wind energy at home you will save significant money. But, you will have a lot better experience if you take care to look into these few items upfront.

It is cheap insurance to do your homework before you began. But, a wind turbine in any form is going to cut your costs even if you inefficiently do your front and analysis.
