With for renewable energy sources on everyone's mind now, there are a lot of energy cost reduction incentives available in almost every state. Wind turbine incentives lead the pack.

We know we can't leave it up to the government any more to solve our energy problems for us. But, we can take advantage of the incentives that they offer to be ahead of the wave on installing wind turbine capacity at home as well as evaluating other energy resources that fall under the renewable category.

Here are the forms these incentives for wind turbines come in:

1. Federal renewable energy tax credit for residential consumers - this is a 30% tax credit. Tax credit means this amount comes directly off your bottom line tax amount owed. This alone can be enough to incentivize you to buy a wind turbine. But there is more…

2. State and local rebates - many states and cities are also offering incentives that mirror offers made by the federal government. A great place to check and see which states and cities are offering is DSIREUSA.org. This website is the repository of all state and local credits available in the United States.

3. Utility rebates - many utilities also offer incentives to reduce revenue you give them. This seems kind of strange at first but they are also charged with not building new power plants these days and if you have energy production capability at home, that's less energy that you will have to buy from them. That means, the less energy they will have to produce in a new fossil fuel driven power plant. The less electricity manufactured in such plant, the less carbon than split out into the atmosphere.

4. Finally, manufacturers' rebates - these are incentives that individual manufacturers offer to get you to choose their product over someone else's. This is the final icing on the cake. With the manufacturers' rebates the savings overall can be tremendous. There is almost no way you can help getting a wind turbine cheaply, with all the wind turbine incentives out there now. You got to make sure though if you're doing this yourself you look under every rock for incentives are available.

There's no one that will come and just hand them to you when you buy and build a windmill for your home. You've got to go out and look. A great resource for that is DSIREUSA.org, which is a repository of information for federal, state, and local credits.
