With wind turbine kits the question is always where should the device be mounted to get the most wind energy out? There are a number of options, including putting the device on your roof as well as mounting them on a tower high up in the air.

There are several factors to take into consideration when you are trying to figure out how high up your wind turbine kit should be installed…

The first thing of course is any rule that might preclude you mounting the wind turbine as high up in the atmosphere she would like. The most important rule that you must obey is the Federal Aviation Administration's ruling that you cannot have any device in their own traffic system higher than 200 feet. This is obviously for safety reasons and to superimpose the standard over the entire airspace system in the country. The standards need to be ubiquitous and not be called into question with every specific state and local jurisdiction.

Then, there are other considerations that apply only at the local level. If you are trying to install a wind turbine device near your neighbor's land, you need to be sensitive to what their requirements and issues are. So, it could be that you're having a wind turbine at a certain height causes shadow flicker which annoys them. This is why there is usually a permitting process associated with local placement regarding device installation. You have to meet the requirements of the permit or you cannot install the device, even on your own property.

Finally and most importantly, you need to take into consideration the exact wind at that location where you want to install the device. This is perhaps the biggest factor in determining whether or not you're going to make a lot of energy out of your new wind power generation system.

In other words, you don't want to install your wind turbine at 80 feet, if 100 feet will get you another 2 or 3 mph of average wind. You want to optimize the potential for harvesting energy out of the wind wherever you happen to be located. Therefore, you need to make a careful study of the strength of the wind at various heights as the place that you want to install wind turbine kits.

All these factors taken into consideration will tell you how high you need to install your wind turbine kits. This is not something you can just do an abstract, but instead you need to factor in all the variables that are safety, aesthetics, and efficiency related to your project.
