With the explosion in the popularity of Renewable energy sources all over the country, the public is all too familiar with the concept of making electricity from wind. Home wind turbine kits are beginning to scatter the countryside. As the public becomes increasingly familiar with alternatives to fossil fuel sources, this will only increase.

However, everyone interested in home wind turbine kits needs to take a lesson on evaluating the efficacy of this type of renewable energy source on their own property. In most cases some electricity can be made with a wind turbine, but not always. There is a real need to assess the relative strength of the wind on the locations where you might install it turbine on your property.

First off, the best areas of the country for wind energy are the middle states. Ranging from Texas to the Canadian border due north. In those states the wind blows the most consistently. If you install a wind energy generating device in those locations at least 100 feet above the ground, or 30 feet above the tree line, you are about guaranteed to have a strong project.

The problem comes in when you are in a state other than that central core of states running through the middle of the country. In many locations there will be obvious wind, but it is very difficult to make a project pay for itself without being very high off the ground.

If you're able to locate your wind turbine 30 feet above the height of most obstacles, in most cases you will be able to generate a good deal of electricity. That is because the wind is most consistent there and it is not diffused by the obstacles; buildings and trees that are found lower down to the ground.

So, wind turbine kits are not a no-brainer. You have got to do some study on your own property in order to properly evaluate whether or not they work for you. This doesn't have to be a time-consuming task but you need to do your due diligence or else you could buy a wind turbine and regret it.

In summary, home wind turbine kits can be a terrific project and a great way to make a stab at defraying rising energy costs. However, it is easy get in trouble if you're not careful about doing your analysis on the front end. A little work up front will save you a lot of heartache in the long run if you'll just take the time to specifically analyze your property and make sure it is a good fit for wind turbine technology.
