Wind turbine kits can be a great way to start off with renewable energy at your home, but they can be time consuming to construct. Are they worth the effort?

When you begin with wind turbine kits, you need to take the time to really understand what you're getting into and make sure that you have the resources on your property to fuel them and make the energy that you expect to make.

To answer that question, we have to first consider the alternatives:

Purchase a ready-made wind turbineConsider alternatives like solar energy productionHope there's a Steve Jobs out there making a Mr. Nuclear so energy won't be an issueTake no action and hope for the best As you are considering wind turbine kits it is wise to look into the purchase of a ready-made windmill. Both will get you to the same destination. The only way to know is to think through the amount of time and effort involved and make a personal decision as to which will fit your schedule and temperament better.

The advantage of wind turbine kits that are not ready to go out of the box is that they are much much cheaper. They also will not last as long as a windmill that is made in a factory. The materials that are used to manufacture them are much more rugged - usually, polycarbonate or metal of some kind.

You also can look into solar power as an alternative. Solar power is very passive with no moving parts so they tend to last a long time - a lot longer than a wind turbine due to the buffeting that takes place in high winds. Solar power though also requires a lot of detailed construction and upfront planning if you are making a system from a homemade kit.

Many people feel that magically, there will be a solution to the energy crisis waiting out there somewhere to appear. We always want to believe in this technological age that anything is possible and that somebody must be working on it out there. The insidious thing about this way of thinking is that it keeps us from acting on the improvements in efficiency that are right before our eyes, hoping something better is at hand.

In conclusion, wind turbine kits can take a while to get up and running but you can save a lot of money buying this way. It is all worth the trouble when you are finally making power for free. While this is a skill set you won't need to use every day, completing a project like this comes with it a real sense of personal accomplishment.
