If you're looking into the concept of getting a home wind turbine kit, then you need to think about the types of blades that are available out there. The blades are the things that wear out the quickest and that will be your highest replacement cost on the unit over time. I would make an argument for polyvinyl chloride or PVC being your best alternative.

The reason is it is cheap and easily replaceable at most of the hardware store. If you made the decision to do this yourself and build a kit from scratch, especially, making the parts out of materials that are easy to come by is definitely the way to go. PVC also has the advantage of being extremely lightweight and sturdy.

If you're not in a wind environment that is challenging, having blades that will stand up to some stress is an absolute necessity. Wood blades are also an alternative that are used quite often. The disadvantage with wood though is that they degrade under adverse weather conditions. Even moisture in the air can cause them to fall apart.

They're very light weight, but that often does not offset the challenges presented by the material itself. Even though polyvinyl chloride or PVC blades are great, they are not ideal in every scenario. They tend to work better when the size of the blades or the rotor path is smaller.

That is not a problem for most home wind turbine kit purchasers because most blades are of a smaller diameter anyway. There are plenty of plans out on the Internet for hyper-efficient blade designs. You just need to match one up with the actual wind turbine style that you choose to make.

Even though it is PVC you still need to fashion the blades that after you cut them. Sanding paper works quite well for this. This is all a little bit of a hassle but it will pay off with great dividends the performance of your wind device.

Finally, you need to put some sort of coating even on the PVC. You've got to have some coverage to protect the material from the ravages of Sun. The Sun can make them actually shatter after repeated exposure, so is a good idea to filter out those ultraviolet rays that cause this problem.

Having done all this, now you're ready to put the home wind turbine kit blades on your system. All you really have to do is drill a hole and attached the blade to the mount. This is by far the most efficient and effective way of replacing blades for your home wind turbine kit.
